Hi. My name is Lisa Beresnyak. I am a fully Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS). I received a Master’s of Science Degree in Addiction Studies from Capella University, and I am presently working toward my Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure (LCMHC).
My clinical experience includes working at Gupta Psychiatry as Co-Clinical Director for the PHP/IOP program that allowed me to work with clients struggling with substance use/addiction, life transitions, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other co-occurring mental health disorders. After completing my Internship at UNC (Department of Gynecology), I worked with the UNC Horizons program as an Outpatient Therapist, facilitating group therapy, as well as with the SAIOP Program, working with women that were pregnant and/or with children managing substance abuse and addiction.
My training and certifications include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Based Training, and EMDR. I am also a Registered Yoga Instructor. My therapy approach includes mindfulness, compassion, and helping my clients to recognize their own inner resources, to create transformation, healing and strength from within despite the external challenges of the world, being “stuck” in past traumas or childhood narratives, and day to day stressors.
I am a certified Reiki I / Reiki II Usui Instructor. Reiki “energy” healing is another form of therapy which is spiritual in nature but not religious. Reiki can be included into the therapy session as another form of therapeutic intervention as it works on the body, mind, and emotions to create relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety. Reiki can also be used as a complementary holistic addition to therapy or as a stand-alone service.
I believe all humans have the potential to discover their inner strength and overcome difficulties. I help clients to understand the root of unhealthy behavior patterns and thoughts to break free from what is holding them back from living authentically. I look forward to working with new clients, and my aim is to provide a safe, nurturing environment so that you can be comfortable and be heard. Whatever your life challenges may be, my approach to psychotherapy is to collaborate with you to reach your unique goals.
